Debut at Oulton Park

Leo Robinson makes Ginetta Junior debut at Outon Park

Freddie Slater wins the final Ginetta Junior race of the weekend in mixed conditions at Oulton Park.

The rain began under drops of rain, which cleared during an early safety car session, only for another short, sharp shower during the final lap of the weekend.

Alisha Palmowski looked close to challenging Slater on the final lap, only to spin in the wet conditions and drop down the pack.

It was Palmowski who got the lead at the start of the race after squeezing past the two front row starters before turn one. She was then comfortably ahead when the safety car was brought out, neutralising the race at the end of lap one.

Further back in the pack, a spin for Charlie Hart had collected Tom Spragg, while other drivers ran wide and dropped down the order. McKenzie Douglass, who was seventh on the grid, dropped to the back of the field, while Luca Hopkinson, Hart and Spragg retired from the race.

The brief shower had cleared by the time racing resumed. Slater was immediately on Palmowski’s tail and trying to get alongside. The two-time race winner was alongside at the outside of turn one and managed to hold on to slot into the race lead. Hugo Schwarze close behind made it a three car battle for the lead.

As in the previous two races, that wouldn’t last long as Slater pulled away from the rest of the field. Palmowski then spent the rest of the race battling to keep Schwarze behind her. Finn Harrison and Reza Seewooruthun would at times join the battle for second, while at other times it was two separate to car battles.

Palmowski managed to hold on, despite a wobble that almost allowed Schwarze through, until the final lap. A sudden shower forced Slater to slow as he was the first driver to hit the track under the new conditions. Palmowski was then catching on the race leader before spinning, ending her hopes of a race win.

The Elite Motorsport driver managed to keep the car out of any barriers and rejoined the race to finish ninth.

Meanwhile, Slater came through 1.563s ahead of Schwarze to take his third victory.

Seewooruthun took third, passing Harrison late on and challenging Schwarze on the final lap. However, Seewooruthun was later determined to have gotten an unfair advantage and was demoted to P4, behind Harrison.

Mikey Porter took fifth ahead of McKenzie Douglass, who managed an incredible recovery to climb back up through the field and finish P6.

Scholarship winner Chase Fernandez had been on for another good result before running off into the gravel on the final lap, ending his race prematurely.

Leo Robinson, who he had been battling with early on, finished seventh, ahead of Freddie Allum, Palmowski and Edu Robinson.
