Leo Robinson, Oscar Wurz and Victor Nielsen all delivered solid performances in the final races of the year.

For the team’s two international drivers, it was yet another new track on the calendar, but during Friday’s practice sessions, they quickly familiarised themselves with the layout of Jyllandsringen. For Victor Nielsen, it was a welcome return to both the car and the track after being absent for a few races.

In the qualifying session, Leo Robinson was the top-performing STEP driver in fourth place, with Oscar Wurz and Victor Nielsen taking sixth and seventh positions.

The final weekend traditionally brings more intense racing and this time was no exception. Some early commotion in the first heat allowed Victor Nielsen and Leo Robinson to move up to second and third places, while Oscar Wurz finished in fifth. However, he made a comeback in the next heat, securing his best result so far with a second-place finish, just ahead of Leo Robinson and Victor Nielsen.

The impressive and consistent results in the first two heats fulfilled every team owner’s dream: STEP Motorsport cars occupied the top three starting positions for the year’s final race. However, a brief shower of rain added some spice to the race. The damp and greasy asphalt led some, including the three STEP drivers, to start with slick tyres while others bet on rain tyres being the right choice.

And the rain tyres were the right choice, at least for the first few laps when all three STEP drivers had to watch their competitors pull away. But as the track dried up, the positions shuffled again.

Leo Robinson performed the best, securing another second-place finish despite a determined chase for the lead. Victor Nielsen crossed the finish line in fourth place, while Oscar Wurz ended the season with a seventh-place finish.
Leo also took home a trophy for third place in the Rookie championship, which is quite impressive considering he only competed for half of the season.

Step Team Manager Morten Dons also had the opportunity to step onto the podium as the winner of the team championship in Formula 4 2023. He expressed his happiness after the weekend’s three races:
A weekend like this is what motivates us: three drivers who have developed and are competitive at the top of the field. Leo joined us a month ago at Ring Djursland and was immediately competitive, and I had hoped he could secure a win today – but he has shown that he has great potential, and I am delighted to have had a driver like him with us,” says Morten Dons, adding:
Oscar has similarly grown in his role since his debut at Padborg Park two weeks ago and had some good races today. He is a fast driver who works tirelessly to improve, and with that attitude, he can go far!

And it was good to have Victor back in the team and despite being away from the car for a while, he also achieved some good results. It’s a good way to end the season, and I hope it will set him up well for the next step in his career.

As the newly crowned team champion, Morten Dons has no doubt about why they succeeded:
Above all, you need drivers who can perform at the top. But the drivers also need cars that can go fast all the way to the finish line and a framework that provides them with peace and the opportunity to grow. I am proud of our small team and all the people who share the passion and ambition to elevate the next generation of racing drivers to an international level,” says the team manager, adding:
A big thank you to everyone in and around the team for a fantastic effort this year. I am grateful for the hard work that is put in to maintain high standards on and off the track.

As one season ends, the next one has already begun. Thus, STEP Motorsport is already in the process of organising test days for potential new drivers for 2024.
